The National Sales Manager (SMERF Market) is responsible for driving group business to Branson by proactively selling to the Social, Military, Educational, Religious, and Fraternal markets. This individual will be tasked with identifying qualified leads, nurturing prospects, and converting them into booked business. 

The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, a high degree of initiative, and a deep passion for customer service. This role demands a strategic yet personable professional who can navigate a variety of client types-from military reunion organizers to faith-based conference planners-with professionalism, enthusiasm, and a solutions-first mindset. 

A background in hospitality sales, especially with SMERF or niche group markets, is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Actively pursue new SMERF business by identifying and soliciting leads from industry databases, referral platforms, partner outreach, and self-generated research;
  • Maintain and develop a robust pipeline by researching potential clients and markets aligned with Branson's strengths as a group destination;
  • Promptly and professionally follow up on all leads, providing custom responses and converting inquiries into booked group business;
  • Cultivate relationships with planners, decision-makers, and influencers in the SMERF space, offering thoughtful and tailored recommendations ;
  • Consistently update the CRM system with accurate and comprehensive client records, activity logs, and communications; 
  • Collaborate with the Analytics Coordinator to track, analyze, and report economic impact metrics related to SMERF group business;
  • Participate in the annual budgeting process by providing data and insight on the SMERF market, and manage assigned budget line items throughout the year;
  • Represent Branson at regional and national trade shows, sales missions, and SMERF specific conferences to prospect new clients and strengthen industry visibility;
  • Lead or support site visits, in-market events, and familiarization tours for SMERF groups and planners, ensuring these experiences reflect Branson's quality and hospitality;
  • Develop customized proposals, itineraries, and presentations that reflect the client's needs and Branson's offerings;
  • Work closely with internal creative and marketing teams to develop materials, sales kits, and client deliverables that reflect the unique needs of the SMERF audience;
  • Stay informed of competitor activities and broader group travel trends, particularly those affecting the SMERF segment, and refine strategies accordingly;
  • Distribute and manage visitor satisfaction surveys post-event to assess client experience and inform continuous improvement efforts;
  • Provide regular sales activity updates, lead status reports, and feedback to the Director of Sales & Operations to ensure alignment with department goals

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in hospitality, marketing, business, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered 
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in hospitality or group sales, ideally in destination marketing or hotel sales 
  • Prior experience working directly with SMERF clientele or similar niche group markets strongly preferred 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel) and experience with CRM or lead management systems required Must have a valid driver's license and be available for out-of-town travel as necessary

Special Characteristics and Abilities: 

  • Strong knowledge of SMERF markets with the ability to speak credibly to military, faith based, educational, and social reunion organizers 
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills; must manage many moving parts simultaneously 
  • Confident communicator with the ability to build rapport across diverse audiences 
  • Analytical thinker who is able to craft creative, strategic solutions for non-traditional groups 
  • Self-starter with a high level of initiative and professional integrity
  • Committed to customer service excellence and able to adapt with composure in high pressure situations 
  • Physical Requirements Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods 
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and perform light physical tasks related to trade show or event materials 
  • Hearing and visual acuity sufficient to interact with clients and stakeholders via phone, video conferencing, and in-person
