Custodian
Description
The custodian is responsible for ensuring the church facilities are clean, safe, and well-maintained for all worship services, events, and daily use by the congregation. The custodian will uphold the values and mission of the ECO Church and ensure a welcoming environment for all attendees.
Responsibilities
The custodian is tasked with the following general duties:
1. Cleaning and Maintenance:
- Clean and sanitize church facilities, including the sanctuary, fellowship hall, classrooms, restrooms, and office areas.
- Clean floors (sweeping, mopping, vacuuming) and carpets, including dusting, polishing, and removing any debris.
- Empty trash and recycling bins throughout the building and replace liners.
- Clean windows, doors, and walls as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in restrooms, ensuring soap, paper towels, and toilet paper are stocked.
2. Set-Up and Tear-Down for Events:
- Set up chairs, tables, and other equipment for services, meetings, or special events.
- Clean up after events, including removing furniture, wiping down surfaces, and tidying up the space.
- Prepare rooms for various church programs and activities, such as Bible studies, meetings, and fellowship events.
3. Maintain Kitchen and Fellowship Areas:
- Clean and sanitize kitchen counters, sinks, and appliances after each use.
- Ensure that the kitchen is well-stocked with necessary supplies (trash bags, cleaning supplies, etc.).
- Clean and sanitize fellowship hall areas after events, including wiping down tables and chairs.
4. Grounds and Exterior Maintenance:
- Maintain exterior cleanliness, including sweeping walkways, cleaning entryways, and picking up debris around the church grounds.
- Assist with snow removal or other seasonal outdoor maintenance as needed (may be performed by third-party contractors depending on church policy).
5. General Safety:
- Monitor for any maintenance issues, including leaks, damaged equipment, and potential safety hazards.
- Report any necessary repairs or maintenance needs to Director of Maintenance.
- Ensure all areas of the church are free of safety hazards (e.g., wet floors, obstacles in walkways).
6. Routine Inspection and Reporting:
- Perform regular inspections of building cleanliness and report any needed repairs or issues.
- Maintain and keep track of cleaning supplies and order replacements as necessary.
- Maintain a log or checklist of completed tasks for review by church leadership.
Specific Expectations
- Ensure a welcoming atmosphere by keeping the church environment neat and presentable at all times.
- Be available for church events or special services that may require extra preparation or cleaning, including weddings, funerals, and holiday services.
- Follow all ECO guidelines regarding the care and maintenance of the church property.
- Respect the confidentiality and privacy of the church and its members.
- Follow the safety protocols outlined by the church and any local regulations.
Qualifications
- Previous custodial or cleaning experience preferred, especially in church or commercial settings.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, bending, and operating cleaning equipment.
- Good communication skills and a positive, service-oriented attitude.
- Familiarity with standard cleaning products and safety protocols.
