POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Y Academy staff at Ozarks Regional YMCA ensures that childcare programs meet community needs including supervising children, implementing existing program activities, and meeting its intended goals. The position involves actively engaging with children, teaching, creating and openly communicating. The Ozarks Regional YMCA strictly follows a zero-tolerance policy regarding child abuse & misconduct.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Nurtures children through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement & belonging.
  • Utilizes sound judgement and discretionary skills in accordance with policy.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to participants and their parents/guardians, and families.
  • Implements curriculum & age-appropriate programming within established guidelines.
  • Maintains an environment that ensures children are safe.
  • Always follows YMCA policies and guidelines.
  • Completes required initial & annual trainings, maintain OPEN account.
  • Completes and submits all paperwork on time.
  • Establishes mutual respect & positive relationship with coworkers, supervisors, and school staff.
  • Demonstrates good character and serves as a role model for youth.
  • Maintains all daily attendance, meal counts, and other documents as required.
  • Follow general direction and perform other duties as assigned by directors.
  • Participate in special events & School Days Out as determined in staff handbook.
  • Wear Y identifiable staff uniform & name badge.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must register or be registered with Missouri Family Care and Safety Registry.
  • Must pass both FCSR & fingerprint background screening.
  • Must be available throughout the School Year, M-F during program hours.
  • Requires successful completion of staff training prior to beginning.
  • The incumbent must align with and consistently exhibit the core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in all aspects of their work with the YMCA.
  • CPR & First Aid Certification required within first 30 days (training can be provided).
  • Must attend required staff training and meetings throughout the year.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Documentation of state required medical exam and TB Risk Assessment within 30 days.
  • Must learn and adhere to all State Licensing Requirements.
  • Comply with all Food Program requirements & understand Federal Funding connection.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Physical mobility: walking, climbing, stairs, standing, kneeling, bending, leaning, stooping, and sitting for extended periods.
  • Ability to use phone, tablet, and other equipment.
  • Ability to hear, listen, speak.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust and distinguish colors.
  • Visual and auditory response to critical situations and ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but can be louder at times.
