Accounting Intern
Description
To assist the accounting department on all activities pertaining to WRVEC’s accounting functions, while enhancing the WRVEC Mission and Vision Statements.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assist the accounting team on specific projects and daily tasks as needed.
- Asset Verification: Aid in the task of tracking and reporting fixed assets.
- Record Retention: Assist in efforts to organize accounting records to the applicable time frames.
- General Ledger Uniformity: Coordinate accounts, descriptions, departments, and activity codes.
- Grant Documentation: Support in the preparation of grant reimbursement requests.
- Account Reconciliations: Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
- Daily/Monthly Journal Entries: Prepare journal entries to produce accurate financial statements.
Internship participants will gain:

- Develop administrative, professional, and interpersonal skills to the extent of being able to organize, analyze, and communicate with others in a productive and efficient manner.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Must have proficient written and verbal communication skills, having the ability to communicate with other employees and deal with diverse groups of people to solve problems.
- Must have excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Must have ability to take directions on a variety of projects simultaneously and meet established goals.
Position Requirements:
- Education – Enrolled in a College/University seeking a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, currently maintaining a cumulative GPA of at least a B+ and provide current transcripts.
- Intern Knowledge – No prior knowledge of the Cooperative is needed for such position, yet candidate must demonstrate the desire to excel into an accounting related field.
- Abilities and Skills – Must have the ability to analyze internal information. Maintain an organized work environment, demonstrate the willingness to listen/learn and maintain a positive attitude.
Working Conditions:
- Inside office environment with regular posted office hours and occasional overtime.
Physical Effort and Dexterity:
- Frequent physical activity to include sitting at a desk for prolonged periods of time, standing, walking, stooping, bending, lifting, and carrying materials under fifteen pounds.
Machines, Tools, and Equipment:
- Capable of operating a personal computer, calculator, printer, copy machine, telephone, shredder, and any other required office equipment.
Visual Acuity, Hearing and Speaking:
- Comfortable speaking on the telephone and via online conference tools. Must be able to communicate clearly and accurately for work and safety compliance.
Environment/Working Conditions:
- Majority of work will be performed indoors. Normal office safety precautions and practices are required. Position may require travel to acquire supplies from time to time. The regular work schedule is Monday through Friday.
