Irrigation Technician - Golf

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Irrigation Technician – Golf is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and seasonal preparation of irrigation systems at golf course properties. This role ensures that all irrigation equipment and systems are functioning properly, efficient, and capable of supporting healthy turf and landscape performance. Daily tasks include troubleshooting irrigation issues, maintaining system components, and assisting with golf course maintenance efforts.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Installs, adjusts, services, and repairs irrigation systems, sprinklers, controllers, valves, pump stations, and associated hardware.
- Performs preventative maintenance to ensure proper functioning of irrigation systems throughout the growing season.
- Troubleshoots system issues and repairs leaks, broken heads, electrical connection issues, and water distribution problems.
- Inspects and tests irrigation components to ensure proper water coverage, timing, and system scheduling.
- Assists with excavation, pipe replacement, control wiring repair, and system upgrades as needed.
- Coordinates with golf course management on irrigation scheduling and system demands based on weather and turf conditions.
- Assists with winterization and seasonal start-up procedures to protect irrigation systems from freeze damage.
- Maintains accurate records of maintenance, repairs, work performed, parts used, and system issues.
- Ensures compliance with safety standards while operating irrigation tools and equipment.
- Provides excellent guest service and coordination with turf maintenance teams when working near play areas.
- ALL OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED.
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum Degree Required: High School Diploma or equivalent experience.
- Experience in golf course maintenance, irrigation repair, landscape maintenance, or related field preferred.
- Technical ability to diagnose system issues and perform mechanical repairs.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:
- Knowledge of irrigation systems, controllers, valves, and pumps.
- Ability to read, interpret, and work with irrigation schematics and diagrams.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to operate irrigation tools, hand tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Regular walking, bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Work performed outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Ability to operate equipment safely and effectively.
INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT:
Performs tasks under general supervision. Uses judgment and technical knowledge to assess system issues and perform appropriate maintenance and repairs to ensure proper irrigation system performance.
